While the Indian Government has already planning to ban cryptocurrency, this Sunday, a tweet came out from PM Modi’s official Twitter handle.
The tweet said “India has officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender. The Government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them to all residents of the country.”
Aditya Raj Kaul, who first spotted the tweet, takes its screenshot and first lets the world know, the Twitter handle of PM Modi has been compromised.
While some people were saying the screenshot is fake, the official Twitter handle of PMO India posted a tweet saying “The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored.”
Who was responsible for performing the hack?
Well, so far, no organization has taken the responsibility of performing the hack.
Also, the link found in the tweet is not accessible.
The Twitter handle of PM Modi has not been hacked for the first time.
Last year also, his Twitter handle was hacked, and posted a tweet asking people to donate for Prime Minister COVID-19 funds via Bitcoins. The hack was reportedly performed by John Wick hacking group.
Besides PM Modi, the official Twitter handle of several powerful people (that includes Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Bill Gates) was hacked last year to promote a Bitcoin scam.
Now, again a hack promoting a Bitcoin scam.
