In a speech given on 15 August this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the countrymen for the first time that India would soon get its first Chief of Defense Staff. The main task of the Chief of Defense Staff will be to create co-ordination between the three forces (Army, Navy, and Air force) of the country. The Chief of Defense Staff will report directly to the government.

Today, in a cabinet meeting held under the leadership of the Prime Minister, it was cleared that there would be a Chief of Defense Staff position in the country, which would also chair the Chief of Staff Committee. According to sources, General Bipin Rawat could be the first Chief of Defense Staff of the country. However, it is not officially confirmed yet. Let us tell you that on 31 December this year, General Bipin Rawat is going to complete his 3-year term on the position of Army Chief. Lt. General Manoj Mukund Narwane is going to acquire his position.

Back in August this year, Under the leadership of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the Government of India prepared the framework to mark the responsibilities of the Chief of Defense Staff position. Just like the General of the Army, Navy, and the Indian Air Force have a Four Star, the Chief of Defense Staff also have a Four Star. However, the General of the Army, Navy, and Indian Airforce have to report the Chief of Defense Staff. Earlier, they report to the Government of India.

Those of you who do not know there should be a position like Chief of Staff was first suggested after the 1999 Kargil Conflict. However, later it was put on hold.
