After Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice Ranjan Gogoi is the next senior most judge present on the bench.
According to media, Justice Gogoi appoints as the next Chief Justice of India on October 3, 2018. However, his tenure will end on November 17, 2019. Note that, Right now official authority doesn’t present any official confirmation about this matter.
It is custom in India that the current Chief Justice of India, Announce the name of the next Chief Justice of India. When the current CJI present a name, then Central Government approves it. Eventually, if the Central Government agrees, then the name chosen takes Oath in front of the President of India.
In past, Justice Gogoi governs as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Moreover, Justice Gogoi’s father Keshab Chandra Gogoi has also been a former Chief Minister of Assam. Justice Gogoi appoints as a Judge in the Supreme Court of India back on April 23, 2012.
