India may increase the minimum age to marry a girl

While addressing a video conference after releasing a commemorative coin of Rs 75 (celebrating 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organisation), the Prime Minister of India said, for the first time in our country, the gross enrolment ratio in education has turned higher for girls in comparison to boys and that become possible because of the several efforts taken by the Government in last six years.

PM Modi said, he is receiving letters from womens all across the country asking him about the report of when will the government take decision about the ideal age for girl’s marriage.

Well, those of you who have no context about the same, giving a speech this Independence day, PM Modi said, he has set up a committee to deliberate the minimum age for girl’s marriage and about the same while addressing a video conference after releasing a commemorative coin of Rs 75, PM Modi said, he is waiting for the same report from the committee and as soon as the committee will deliver it’s report, we will decide the ideal age to marry a girl in India.

Now, many of you know that as per the Government of India, Currently, the minimum age to marry a woman is 18 years while for men it is 21 years. It is expected that the Government of India may increase the minimum age for girls to marry.
