In July this year, the country has got a new education policy called National Education Policy 2020 to change the Education System of India from School to College Level.
Under the National Education Policy 2020, it is said, the government will soon form a single umbrella body called Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) to control the Higher Education (except Medical and Legal Education) framework in the country.
While earlier we have no date of when this new Umbrella body is going to be formed in the country, now in a recent virtual conference organised by FICCI, the secretary of Higher Education, Mr. Amit Khare has reportedly said, the common admission test for entrance to all the central universities is coming in 2021. Also, the Academic Bank of Credit through which credits will be transferred from one university to another is also coming in 2021.
National Research Fund
The secretary also talked about the National Research Fund in which all universities, it does matter whether they are private, state or central controlled, they should have competitive funding. He said, the National Research Fund will be more or less like the existing National Science Foundation in the USA. He also said, Social Science will also be a part of this National Research Fund.
HECI to come in India next year
He also said, in the next academic session, India will have the Higher Education Commission, a single umbrella body to control the higher education activities in India (except the legal and medical education activities).
The Introduction of HECI means the merger of UGC, AICTE and NCTE.
